National Heritage Week focuses attention on conservation and preservation in Ireland
Saturday 20th August saw the start of national Heritage Week. The week is coordinated by The Heritage Council in the spirit of the European National Heritage Days in which over forty countries participate. "The main aim of European Heritage Days are to promote awareness of our built, natural and cultural heritage and to promote Europe’s common cultural heritage." The initiative is designed to build awareness and educate about heritage in Ireland and encourage interest in conservation and preservation.
Every year hundreds of national and local community events take place during the last week in August. From medieval re-enactment festivals to wildflower tours there are many ways to participate across the country. Find out what's on near you on the very informative website here.
